Mindful Creative Labs
Many Things Can Be True
How can people encounter the same thing and produce genuinely different information?
The research logic
Research specification
- Familiar condition
- Group sense-making rewards convergence toward one shared interpretation.
- Underlying structure
- Consensus can cause situated observations to be treated as errors, noise, or interpersonal disagreement rather than as different information produced from different positions.
- Alteration
- Multiple representations stay visible and distinct before synthesis is permitted.
- Hypothesis
- If perspectives stay distinguishable before consensus, participants may notice information that disappears when a group converges too quickly.
- What it tests
- Situated perception. Distinction before synthesis. Plurality as information rather than as automatic conflict.
- Encounter
- Everyone observes the same source in silence, then represents it using exactly five shapes, three lines, and five words. In the gallery each person looks for something another participant included that they did not, then creates again starting from what someone else noticed.
- Complication
- Different perspectives are not automatically equally accurate, ethical, or useful. The Lab turns no factual disagreement into everyone having their own truth. It investigates what perspective conditions before deciding what synthesis is justified.
Groups move fast from many observations to one correct account. This Lab keeps the accounts distinguishable.
Applications: teams, communication, perspective, belonging. Runs at 60, 90, or 180 minutes. Standard capacity 30. Different observers can produce different, legitimate information from one encounter.

Where this stream came from
Mindful Creative Labs grew from Charles Mindful Wellness’s earlier Mindful Creative Workshop practice, including a 2023 public-library workshop series at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, DC.
The current Lab was designed later, from the questions those workshops made visible, and does not reproduce them.
