CMW Research Program

Connect

Fund, host, collaborate, or participate.

Support the research, bring an encounter into an environment, collaborate on a question, or hear when public participation opens. Choose any that fit.

Organizations are conditions too.

Every organization arranges experience before anyone arrives. That arrangement can become part of the inquiry.

A library organizes
How patrons enter, wait, ask, browse, gather, learn, and become visible.
A museum organizes
Attention, interpretation, authority, pacing, and movement.
A university organizes
Evaluation, participation, sequence, knowledge, and belonging.
A community organization organizes
Relation, affinity, care, return, and who is expected to adapt.
A workplace organizes
Time, authority, communication, regulation, attention, and consequence.

An engagement can take four forms:

Host a Mindful Creative Lab
A 60-, 90-, or 180-minute facilitated inquiry through attention, making, interpretation, and reflection.
Present an Experiment in Being Together
A participatory public artwork that changes one familiar social condition for the length of a gathering.
Commission a situated inquiry
Begin with the environment itself: field observation, spatial reading, facilitated inquiry, archival work, interviews where appropriate, and a synthesis of what becomes visible.
Develop a research or evaluation collaboration
For an institution carrying a more formal question, with an evidence plan, an ethics structure, and a longer inquiry.

What an organization can expect

The Research Program does not promise predetermined transformation. It can promise a clear design and a documented process.

Depending on the engagement, that may include:

  • a facilitated encounter
  • a condition map
  • a set of research questions
  • field or spatial observations
  • a participant-created artifact
  • a design rationale
  • a synthesis memo
  • a public program
  • a Research Note or Case Study where appropriate
  • recommendations kept separate from findings
  • an explicit account of what the work did not establish

If an organization needs a guaranteed claim such as “this will increase belonging by X percent,” that requires a research design capable of supporting that claim.
